About The Craft Mat

The Craft Mat is a set of free calculators for quilting, crochet, knitting and needlepoint. It is built and maintained by Khokhar Sab, a developer based in Kashmir.

Crafters do a surprising amount of arithmetic. How many panels of backing fabric, how many skeins for a blanket with a border, how many granny squares fit a queen bed. Most of it happens on scraps of paper or a phone calculator, and a small mistake means a second trip to the store. The tools here do that math for you and show how they got the answer.

Who checks the numbers

Khokhar Sab doesn't quilt, knit or crochet, so nothing here relies on personal habit or guesswork. Formulas come from published standards, such as the Craft Yarn Council's yarn weight system, and from common quilting practice for fabric widths, backing overage and binding. Each calculator is tested against examples worked out by hand, and the method is written out on the page so you can check it yourself.

If you are an experienced maker and something doesn't match what you do at your table, please get in touch. Corrections are made and the page date is updated.
